The Indian army will be inducting women in its rank-and-file for the first time in the coming weeks with the training of the first batch of women cadets in the Corps of Military Police (CMP) scheduled for completion in the next few weeks in Bengaluru. The cadets began their 61-week training on January 6, 2020.
भारतीय सेना में महिलाएं सैन्य अफसर के तौर पर तो करीब दो दशक से कार्यरत हैं, लेकिन कुछ समय पहले तक जवान के पद पर नहीं थी. लेकिन साल 2017 में ये फैसला लिया गया था कि महिलाओं को जवान के रैंक यानि सिपाही और हवलदार के पद पर तैनात किया जाए. इसके बाद पिछले साल यानी दिसम्बर 2019 में पहली बार महिलाओं की जवान के पद पर सेना में भर्ती हुई थी. अब महिलाओं की एक और बैच बेंगलुरू में ट्रेनिंग ले रही हैं.
